MuRukariNyange Secondary School is located in Ngororero district in western Rwanda. The bravery of its students has awarded them to be among national heroes under Imena category.
In the night of March 18th, 1997 around 9 p.m., a group of infiltrators entered two classrooms (senior 5 and 6) in which were 47 students. They ordered them to divide into groups of Hutu and Tutsi, but the students refused to that order saying that they are all Rwandans. Consequently seven of them were killed and many others wounded. Today all those students – dead and survivors – are national heroes under Imena category and are models of Rwandans who loved their country and refused ethnicity at the price of the supreme sacrifice.
